Digital or Traditional

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 8, 2009, 3:02 PM
Which do you like, and why.

Are you like me and like both? I love digital for it's clean lines.
I like traditional for it's little mistakes, makes it seem more human.

I would have made this a poll, but I don't want one word answers, I want a discussion... so, DISCUSS!

I like both... but I'd rather do full-blown illustrations digitally. Easier to correct mistakes, edit colors, etc. I am a digital child. :)

I love using acrylics for crafty stuff, though. :B I love how the color builds.

sometimes I like to re-do a whole painting when I mess up... but only sometimes. Other times that's when I wish I had an undo button on my paint brush lol

Yeah, I find myself thinking, "undo, undo, UNDO!" sometimes when I am painting sculpts. X)

Traditional.
I like to physically hold the art in my hand. I like the time and effort and work to be IN MY HANDS. And making a print of it just isn't the same.
I love how traditional art feels, I like the physical labor that's there. Digital art is good when you want something smooth and completely clean, but I feel like it takes away the character that's there in most cases. If you can't make the smooth lines you want traditionally, I feel like it's a cop out to do it digitally when you can just constantly undo everything and just fix it straight.
I just can't adapt to digital. I have a tablet, but I don't enjoy it the way I do pen and paper.

I like both. I've always been into a mix media, combining, mediums and formats. This dichotomy was quick to form especially after having to upload one's art on to a online gallery, such as dA. :P The line between traditional and digital has blurred for me.

Scanning it in or photograph via digital cam. using an image program to do some minor adjustments or to create an entire digital composite. From photomanips, animations, webpage layouts. etc.

Besides, its easier to experience art in this format. No admission prices, fees, etc. Sure, it does have its draw backs..eep I digress.

In the end I seen no reason to shun one over the other.I actually see they are awesome together. Just like a lil cute cybernetic couple walkin' down the street. ^^

Traditional.

I used to love digital.. the thought of an "Undo" button, or just adding a non-committal layer had me hooked for awhile..

But there is just something so less limiting about traditional that I love.. There are no fancy formats or tricks to learn, and you aren't as limited.. and I personally love the brush strokes and textures much more than many clean digital work.

The undo with a paint brush is wiping it with your finger. :)

I of course do more traditional but I do like both. I mean I've been digitally painting drawings since 7th grade.. 10 years ago (still not the best though). I use digital now to map out my colors for large paintings.

But with me working in galleries I want to sell my work and digital doesn't seem fair... because the buyer just has something I could print again. I mean limited print runs are good but you know I'm making a product for someone to buy, so I do consider them.

And with regards to undo, it's really easy to correct mistakes because you know what not to do. It's just getting the confidence to do it. I put down a stroke and wipe it back off so many times. The undo button is a little different.

Both are good, I mean I am trying to develop a digital style so then I can create art quicker for more of a freelance career... but who knows. People (like art directors, etc) are too impatient now a days and really push digital art which I don't think is good. And digital is hard for me because I draw with the paper on it's side and you can't really do that very well with tablets.
